Kilimanjaro Day Hike – Marangu Route

 The Experience

The Marangu Route is one of the most enjoyable Kilimanjaro Day Hikes, allowing you to experience the beautiful foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro within a single day.

You will start Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Day Hike at Marangu Gate, the eastern entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park, where your guide completes your park registration. From there, you enter the rainforest zone, you’ll begin your trek through the lush rainforest that surrounds you. Along the way, you may spot the iconic black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and a wide variety of forest birds in amongst the forested trees.

After roughly 3 to 4 hours of walking, you reach Mandara Hut, where a packed lunch and a well-deserved rest await. Weather permitting, you can continue a short distance further to Maundi Crater for sweeping views across Kilimanjaro’s foothills, northern Tanzania, and into Kenya.

The descent back to Marangu Gate takes about 2 to 3 hours, and as you walk back through the forest one last time, the day’s achievement begins to sink in. You finish having stood on the slopes of Kilimanjaro itself, with tired legs and a memory that will stay with you long after you’ve left the mountain behind.
